LIONEL LOUEKE TRIO
Lionel Loueke guitar/vocals, Michael Olatuja bass, Mark Giuliana drums
Guitarist/vocalist Lionel Loueke grew up in the West-African port of Cotonou, Benin, with a soundtrack of Congolese hits and cassette tapes of Jim Hall and George Benson, which he endlessly played over by ear. His fluent mix of African groove and imaginative jazz made him a favorite sideman of stars such as Herbie Hancock. Heritage is his third album for Blue Note. Although the music is more intense and electric than before, he could still be called ‘a gentle virtuoso’ (New York Times).
Bimhuis Restaurant opens at 18:30. After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
