For the past ten years Argentinean pianist Leo Genovese has celebrated success in the band of singer/double bassist Esperanza Spalding. A highlight was their performance at the Grammy Awards where Esperanza was crowned Best New Artist. One thing led to another and Genovese even performed with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Last summer he headlined five nights at the legendary New York jazz club Village Vanguard.
At the Bimhuis, Leo Genovese presents his trio, blending jazz and latin influences into adventurous, richly varied interplay. Later this year sees the release of his new album on which he collaborates with Esperanza and former Miles Davis-drummer Jack DeJohnette. Together with Joe Lovano they did a dazzling performance in Amsterdam as Spring Quartet, a concert organized by the Bimhuis and Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.
