The fame of alto saxophonist Lee Konitz (Chicago, 1927) started with his contribution to the Birth of the cool of Miles Davis. In the decennia after Konitz became an adventurer that stayed on the edge through permanent education. With his original style he is one of the rare saxophonists that manages to stay out of Charlie Parker’s shadow. About Konitz’ New Nonet The Chicago Tribune wrote: ‘The long and flowing lines, arid ensemble textures and restless harmonic ambiguity of this music provided a nearly ideal setting for Konitz’s uncommonly fluid sound on alto.’
