Late Show: Hermine Deurloo – Tribute To A Plant

Hermine Deurloo harmonica, Eran Har Even guitar, Joost Buis trombone/lap steel guitar, Frans van der Hoeven bass, Martijn Grootendorst video-art

This show is streamed live on BIMHUIS TV and can be followed on YouTube and Facebook.

During the 2020 lockdown, Hermine Deurloo started growing plants, which inspired her to create a new performance. Because aside from light and love, plants are influenced by music. In the early 1970s that was the theory behind Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants, the book, the documentary and the eponymous album by Stevie Wonder. Since then the research has expanded on plants and their secret life.

Fascinated by this hidden world, Hermine Deurloo created a concert about the possible relation between plants and music, together with guitarist Eran Har Even, trombonist Joost Buis and video artist Martijn Grootendorst. The concert features new compositions alongside plant-friendly music by Stevie Wonder, Billy Strayhorn and Rogier van Otterloo, as well as improvisations based on organic video projections.

Hermine Deurloo has been an ambassador of the chromatic harmonica in The Netherlands, most recently in her collaborations with legendary drummer Steve Gadd. Guitarist Eran Har Even is a storyteller on guitar and Joost Buis a well-known Dutch improviser, praised for his imaginative trombone and lap steel guitar playing.
