In the ROVA saxophone quartet, Larry Ochs combines the freedom of jazz with the hypnotic repetitive structures of minimal music. The sparse sounds of minimalist composers like Morton Feldman serves as a source of inspiration for the trio, made up of Ochs, downtown bassist Mark Dresser, and legendary drummer Vladimir Tarasov. The three musicians, who rarely perform in this line-up, share a fascination with sonic nuance, expressed through melodic and exploratory improvisations.
