Larry Goldings / Peter Bernstein / Bill Stewart
Thursday31 May 2018

Larry Goldings has a unique style on the Hammond B3 organ, with which he could be heard alongside John Scofield, Maceo Parker and Norah Jones. ‘More ‘cool’ than ‘sweat’, but certainly not without feel’, is how Dutch daily NRC described his trio with guitarist Peter Bernstein and drummer Bill Stewart. All three play equally important parts in their brilliant melting pot of groove, melody and swing.

These phenomenal American musicians have been playing as a trio for 25 years. Peter Bernstein made name as guitarist with Sonny Rollins. Bill Stewart is a great example for jazz drummers since he played with John Scofield and Chris Potter. Their first truly collaborative album Ramshackle Serenade earned rave reviews: ‘It’s a beauty, showcasing the trio in characteristic slow-burn mode and with clarion-clear sound. Bernstein’s guitar lines are lyrically aglow, while Goldings excels in earthy undertow on the Hammond. Stewart thoroughly grooves on the kit without making a lot of noise’ (Downbeat).
