LARRY CORYELL SOLO
Wednesday17 December 2008
In the 1960s he crossed the psychedelic rock sound of Hendrix and The Beatles with jazz, initiating an entire genre. Larry Coryell is seen as the inventor of fusion, but above all he is a versatile guitarist. He played in electric groups with Chick Corea, Randy Brecker and John McLaughlin, in acoustic settings with Charles Mingus and Paco de Lucia and in his previous Bimhuis gig he even fronted an Indian group. Now he takes a pick from his solo guitar repertoire, which includes jazz standards, Django-like pieces, as well as variations on compositions by Stravinsky, Ravel and Harry Mancini.
