Singer Kurt Elling is a phenomenon. The New York Times describes him as ‘the standout male vocalist of our time’ and this year he was once again chosen as best male vocalist by the Jazz Journalists Association. Elling sings standards, recites poetry and vocalises bebop solos and distinguished jazz melodies. His repertoire additionally includes soul and rock by such artists as Stevie Wonder and Joe Jackson. ‘One of the few post-Baby Boom hardcore jazz artists who can live up to the term “original”’ (Downbeat).
Kurt Elling performs in the Bimhuis on Friday November 16 and Saturday November 17.
