KRIS BOWERS

AFTERWARDS DJ DIDIER JARNEAUX AT THE CAFE

Kris Bowers piano, Nick Croes gitaar, Glenn Gaddum Jr bas, Jamie Peet drums

Kris Bowers is a major talent of the jazz piano. He won the Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition, played with Kanye West and composes film soundtracks.

25 year-old pianist Kris Bowers is an exceptional talent in the American music world, schooled in jazz as well as classical music and simultaneously influenced by hip-hop and film soundtracks. A good example is his solo piano version of Kendrick Lamar’s Rigamortis on YouTube: a captivating mix of groove, melody and percussion with prepared piano techniques. Equally impressive is his debut album Heroes + Misfits, which saw its release this year.

Kris Bowers won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2011 and around the same time he collaborated on the hip-hop classic Watch the Throne by Jay-Z and Kanye West. He toured with José James and Marcus Miller and composed film music for two documentaries. He also plays covers of contemporary hip-hop, R&B and indie rock, in the NEXT Collective featuring Gerald Clayton.

‘Pianist Kris Bowers may have created jazz’s first headphone-listening epic. An atmospheric collage of cerebral compositions that unfolds like an impressionist suite, Heroes + Misfits is a bracing song cycle that traverses Radiohead-styled rock and hints of Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and Rahsaan Roland Kirk’ (Downbeat).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).

Het is voor We Are Public leden niet mogelijk om vooraf te reserveren voor het concert.
