How does a jazz orchestra actually work? Why do the trumpeters tend
to play with toilet plungers? Jazz vocalist and presenter Edwin Rutten
and Konrad will conduct an investigation, inspired by Benjamin Britten’s
composition The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra from 1946.

In
The Young Person’s Guide to the Big Band we can hear how the jazz
orchestra is designed and how the various sections work together. For
this concert The Konrad Koselleck Big Band will investigate this
together with jazz vocalist/presenter Edwin Rutten. He started
performing on stage as a teenager and he has collaborated with famous
orchestras such as The Skymasters and Metropole Orchestra.

The
Konrad Koselleck is something else, continuously searching for
challenging combinations of jazz, cabaret and so much more. The concert
The Young Person’s Guide to the Jazz Orchestra is its answer to Benjamin
Britten’s composition The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra from
1946. This composition was in turn inspired by Purcell’s music.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
