The French chanson is the main focus of this new Konrad Koselleck Big Band concert featuring chansonnier Philippe Elan and Voice of Holland-finalist Sjors van der Panne.

A French language concert at the Bimhuis? That’s not as crazy as it seems. One of the most performed jazz standards, Autumn Leaves, is based on a French chanson, as is My Way. Chansonnier Charles Aznavour has worked with many American jazz artists and Michel Legrand has made albums with Miles Davis.

Even though the melody generally remains intact, the lyrics are often shifted to the background, unfortunately, because the chanson is known for its literary quality and reflective, socially engaged vision. This is why Konrad Koselleck again focuses on the lyrics in his chanson arrangements.

For this concert Koselleck welcomes two chansonniers living in The Netherlands: French-born singer Philippe Elan, who has been touring Dutch theaters to great acclaim since 1986, and the great promise Sjors van der Panne, who rated high at both the Concours de la Chanson Alliance Française as well as The Voice of Holland.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
