Big band innovator Darcy James Argue from New York conducts a Big Band with students of the Royal Conservatory (The Hague) and Codarts Rotterdam, unleashing his daring vision. ‘Maximalist music’ (Village Voice).
Darcy James Argue has been called a maximalist: his exuberant big band music sounds large and extremely varied, containing influences from old jazz as well as science fiction literature. The innovative composer and band leader from New York is mainly known for his ‘steam punk big band’ Secret Society. This 18-piece ensemble left an impression at Holland Festival 2016 with the multimedia performance Real Enemies. At the Bimhuis, Darcy James Argue will conduct the Big Band of the Royal Conservatory, culled from the Classical and Jazz departments from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and from Codarts Rotterdam.
‘It’s maximalist music of impressive complexity and immense entertainment value, in your face and then in your head’ (Village Voice).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open after the concert (reservations via 020-7882158).
