Ghana’s super hits are created by singer King Ayisoba, who balances between afro-pop, hip-hop and traditional playing on two-stringed kologo. ‘Raw shredding on shepherd’s lute’ (NRC).

He’s a star in Ghana and in the West his most danceable songs have been released on dance compilations and club mixes. Singer King Ayisoba grew up as a shepherd boy. He moved to the city where he discovered hiplife, the popular mixture between highlife and hip-hop. His music became more accessible, but is raw voice reminds us of his origins, like his traditional playing on the two-stringed kologo, the African shepherd’s lute. In Ghana he scored hits and won important wards. In The Netherlands he’s supported by Zea aka Arold de Boer of The Ex, who has released various King Ayisoba albums including the recent Wicked Leaders.

‘His hypnotizing plucking sound transports you from the Ghanaian danced clubs tot the rural north of the country’ (NRC).
