HEWAR & FRIENDS

PLUS: BOOK PRESENTATION & INTERVIEW WITH THE MUSICIANS
HOSTED BY ABDELKADER BENALI
Hewar are: Kinan Azmeh clarinet, Issam Rafie oud, Jasser Haj Youssef violin, Kinan Abou Afach cello, Mohamed Seif Elyazal bass, Omar Musfi percussion

The name of this ensemble says it all: Hewar, Dialogue in Arabic. Hewar brings together an amazingly fresh and diverse musical pallet and influences – namely Arabic, jazz, scat, opera and classical music which makes it a truly unique venture. The band, building on the acclaimed individual talents of each of its members, juxtaposes and meshes these musical styles to create a truly one-of-a-kind genre-breaking music.

Hewar attempts to transcend the barriers of cultural disparities and misconceptions. The unique musical exchange between different musical personalities establishes an open communication, building on what brings humans closer together rather than separates them. This reflects an approach that is as musically-based as much as it has social and political references and subtexts.
