Kika Sprangers Quintet: Mind’s Eye

In her quintet, Kika Sprangers blends the pure, wordless singing voice of Anna Serierse with her own saxophone sound. Early 2022 saw the release of the group’s new album, Mind’s Eye, an ode to the imagination. Kika worked one on one with her band members on sketches, which she turned into narrative compositions. Alessandro Fongaro (bass), Willem Romers (drums) and Koen Schalkwijk (piano, Wurlitzer) can embrace the harmonious playing, but can also offer counterpoint and dynamics.
Last year Kika released the album Lumen together with cellist Jörg Brinkmann and pianist Martin Fondse. She also released the live album No Man’s Land met Pynarello, Wolfert Brederode en Jasper van Hulten. Last summer, As Young Artist in Residence of NJO Music Summer, Kika presented a couple of new programs, and she received the Rogier van Otterloo-award (Prins Bernard Cultuurfonds, Metropole Orkest, Keep an Eye Foundation). This incentive award consists of a composition assignment for Young Metropole 2022.
