KENNY WERNER TRIO
ONE SET – NO INTERMISSION
Kenny Werner piano, Johannes Weidenmueller bas, Ari Hoenig drums
Master pianist Kenny Werner brings a stylish mix of original compositions with gems from swing, bop and jazz. ‘Perfection. My kind of musician’ (Quincy Jones).
The New York pianist/composer Kenny Werner has been leading big bands since the age of eleven and he has an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz. Among those artists with which he has played are Charles Mingus, Archie Shepp and Mel Lewis. He has influenced countless musicians with his book Effortless Mastery, for which he became known as the guru of jazz education. As a composer he’s renowned as well, for example at the Grammy’s, for his lyrical, melodic and never predictable work. At the Bimhuis he will perform in his long-standing trio with Ari Hoenig and Johannes Weidenmueller. Their most recent album The Melody came as a surprise, eight years after the previous release.
‘A very satisfying album. Werner proves to be a sensitive stylist on a perpetually upward path’ (Downbeat).
‘Perfection. 360 degrees of soul and science in one human being. My kind of musician’ (Quincy Jones).
