KENNY GARRETT PRESENTS

Kenny Garrett saxophone, Kona Khasu bass, Johnny Mercier hammond organ, Nathan Webb drums

The last time that alto saxophone player Kenny Garrett set foot on the Bimhuis stage was in 1986, when he performed with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. At the time his flawless, powerful playing grabbed the attention of Miles Davis. After playing in Miles’s band for five years he made huge steps as a solo artist with his crossover of bop and funk. On his recent album Sketches of MD he honours Miles as well as John Coltrane and McCoy Tyner. ‘In Garrett’s best music, happiness and joy are intertwined with spiritual expression’ (JazzTimes).
