KENNY BARRON & DAVE HOLLAND

Kenny Barron piano, Dave Holland bas

These maestros of modern jazz share half a century of experience in an intimate, yet energetic duo concert.

Pianist Kenny Barron was spotted by Dizzy Gillespie whilst still a teenager. He matured in the bands of legends, such as Stan Getz, Yusef Lateef and Freddie Hubbard. He has released over 40 albums as a band leader, displaying a great talent for composing music. ‘Kenny was a phenomenal youngster who developed into a graceful and gracious soloist, the perfect sideman, but also a leader of genuine presence and authority’ (Penguin Guide to Jazz).

Dave Holland’s career also had an early start and at the age of 22 he held the bass spot in Miles Davis Band while leading his own band through the bustling British improv scene of the 1960s. Since then he has earned a considerable reputation as a composer as well. ‘Dave Holland, much like bass giant, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus before him, thinks and listens as intently as he plays. By doing so, this British-born, New York-based luminary creates maximum emotional impact and meaning with every carefully considered note he produces’ (Jazz Times).
