The Keep an Eye Jazz Award is a competition for jazz bands featuring extraordinary talent of Manhattan School of Music in New York, Temple University Philadelphia, Sibelius Academy Helsinki, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

This year the competition has a ‘Monk’ theme. Each band arranges one Thelonius Monk song. This song will be played at the International Final, as well as at least one original by each band.

Artist in Residence and band coach is trumpeter and Director of Jazz Studies at Temple University, Philadelphia, Terell Stafford.

The jury will consist of musicians, educators and professionals from the cultural world, with amongst others saxophonist Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective), journalist Jan Jasper Tamboer (Het Parool), Willie Jones III (drummer, co-founder of Black Note) and Ken Schaphorst (chair jazz studies and improvisation department New England Conservatory, Boston).

The presentation is in the hands of Vera Vingerhoeds, former musician and composer and currently active as an independent jazz professional, moderating & programming jazz events and media.
For 18 years she was responsible for programming and recording jazzconcerts, compiling and presenting her own radio broadcasts at Dutch Public Broadcasting Company VPRO.
