Music by great masters performed in a singular and still recognizable way by a new collective, formed by the young band Kapok and the unusual string quartet Zapp4.
Do we hear a Wayne Shorter, a Brad Mehldau, an Igor Stravinsky, a Hermeto Pascoal or a fresh D’Angelo? The sounds and influences are recognizable, but are these pieces eccentric original compositions or smart forgeries? Zapp4 and Kapok form a new collective in which they approach the music of great masters as if they’re intangible chameleons.
Kapok is a young band with the surprising line-up of French horn, guitar and drums. ‘The trio excels in fervid teamwork, with playful themes, harmonized melodies and propulsive, eccentric rhythms’ (Jazzism). The equally unusual string quartet Zapp4 combines groove, improvisation and fantasy with passionate solos. Zapp4 is a superenergetic live-act, making sparks fly.
