Country, surf and folk songs are transformed into jazz standards by this trio (guitar, bass and drums) with roots in Berlin and links with the New York downtown scene.

A relaxed session at a Berlin tattoo parlor ended up on YouTube and led to this trio with Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima, American double bass veteran Greg Cohen and young Polish jazz drummer Max Andrzejewski. On the album High Noon they mix their youthful country & western influences with among others a Sibelius march, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen and surf classics such as Ghost Riders in the Sky.

Kalle Kalima has been in Berlin since 1998 and is playing and composing for the NDR Big Band. He has collaborated with among others Jason Moran, Jimi Tenor en Tony Allen. Greg Cohen, professor at the Jazz Institut Berlin, is known from the New York downtown scene playing with the likes of John Zorn, Tom Waits and Elvis Costello. Upcoming drum talent Max Andrzejewski was awarded as best soloist at the Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis in 2013.

Special thanks to the Finnish Cultural Institute of the Benelux.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
