KAJA DRAKSLER SOLO

CD PRESENTATIE: THE LIVES OF MANY OTHERS

Kaja Draksler piano

Slovenian pianist/composer Kaja Draksler is a remarkable talent from the Amsterdam jazz and improvised music scene. At the Bimhuis she presents her solo album The Lives Of Many Others, which is released on the renowned label Clean Feed this month.

Kaja Draksler has studied jazz piano in Ljubljana and Groningen and in 2009 she won the Deloitte Jazz Award. In New York she studied privately with great musical innovators of today, Vijay Iyer and Jason Moran. Currently she is finishing her master’s degree in classical composition at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She creates very personal music bringing together the various strands of her career, from classical composition to risky improvisation.

‘Draksler brings austerity, subtlety and poignancy with her fluid piano playing and rings through in bright, rich textures’ (Irish Times).

‘She delivered an impressive patchwork of classical and folk-infused miniatures, alternating with Cecil Taylor-esque percussive accelerations, competing left hand/right hand lines, and beautifully creative inside the piano passages, finishing with Thelonious Monk-like improvisation and a brief Bach encore’ (Henning Bolte, All About Jazz).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
