Pianist/composer Kaja Draksler is a remarkable talent in the Amsterdam jazz/improv scene. The young Slovenian musician recently made a great impression, with her debut solo performance at the Bimhuis. ‘It’s incredible for a young musician to display such personality and musical vision as she does’, said critic Mischa Andriessen in Trouw, about her solo album on the renowned Clean Feed label. ‘The Lives of Many Others’ is a CD that encompasses an immense musical spectrum. It’s all over the map and still manages to sound coherent and organic… Not a promise, but a masterpiece’.

In her Acropolis Quintet, Draksler mixes her avant-gardist playing with music from South East Europe, the Balkan and the Middle East. Turkish singer Sanem Kalfa often grabs everyone’s attention with her intense vocals. ‘Contemporary music making of the highest order’, Jazzwise wrote about a performance of the Acropolis Quintet.
