Kaisa’s Machine ft. Jesse van Ruller: Tour on Rails

Max Zenger alto sax, Eden Ladin piano, Kaisa Mäensivu double bass, Joe Peri drums, Jesse van Ruller guitar

Originally from Finland, double bassist Kaisa Mäensivu learned her chops in New York. She developed her steady, groovy style of accompaniment in clubs such as Smalls and Smoke. Recently she’s been stepping forward with her melodic original compositions, as well as with standards that she occasionally sings. Now she will go on European tour by train, with the band that she recorded her debut album with: Kaisa’s Machine. In Amsterdam they will be joined by top guitarist Jesse van Ruller.

Kaisa Mäensivu started playing bass at age fourteen, and she studied jazz at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and Manhattan School of Music in New York. She took lessons from Ron Carter, her great example, especially in the time he played with the Miles Davis Quintet. Linda Oh, Larry Grenadier, and Paul Chambers are other bassists that have influenced Kaisa Mäensivu. When she’s not on tour, she splits her time between Helsink and New York.
