Julian Schneemann’s Caravan III

The four musicians in Caravan strive for beauty with their musical journeys, crossing cultural boundaries and layers of time. With the depth of the Arabic lute, the grandiosity of the drums, and the brightness of the piano, they carry you along to unique worlds. Previously they have recorded an album featuring singers with Indian, Namibian and Syrian roots, for example. For Caravan III, band leader Julian Schneemann plays the harmonium of drummer Jeroen Batterink’s granddad, which has belonged to his family for generations.
Alongside Schneemann, Caravan consists of Syrian ud virtuoso Jawa Manla, violin phenomenon Emmy Storms, and percussion wizard Jeroen Batterink. Besides his activities as a pianist and composer in his own groups, Julian is also working as a pianist, keyboard player, arranger and composer for other bands and ensembles, for example the Netherlands Wind Ensemble. He was praised by colleagues such as Theo Loevendie and Michael Nyman. His arrangement of Michael Nyman’s Knowing The Ropes was described by Nyman himself as ‘one of the best-ever arrangements of my music’.
