Jon Balke is especially known for his collaboration with Arils Andersen on various EMC-records. Along with his Magnetic North Orchestra he has been touring for over ten years and with him, musicians like Anders Jormin and Marilyn Mazur. Also in his present line-up it is a who’s who of the youngest generation of important Scandinavian musicians. Like Ellington, Gil Evans and Mengelberg, Balke writes his compositions with his musicians and their special abillities in mind. To him, jazz is still ’the sound of surprise’. This concert was realised with the support of The Norwegian Councel for Cultural Affairs.
