Compelling improvisations by buzzing Brooklyn trio in collaboration with saxophone innovator Evan Parker, founding father of the British avant-garde.

John Escreet is someone who can make radical music accessible, a musical omnivore with equal interest in avant-jazz as in today’s electronic dance music. The British pianist moved to Brooklyn, New York ten years ago, where he established connections with fantastic musicians. Drummer Tyshawn Sorey for example, and double bassist John Hébert, both esteemed guests at the Bimhuis.

Now they’ve come full circle collaborating with Evan Parker, founding father of the British avant-garde. The saxophone innovator has developed a stunning improvisational style including circular breathing, double tones, overtones and live-sampling. The foursome excels in compelling improvisations.

‘Plenty of interesting contexts have been devised for Parker’s sound, but this is special. Prepared-piano pluckings accompany deep outbreaths of the tenor sax. A dark piano reverie joins with violin-like patterns, and an exhilarating piece of flat-out free swing testifies to the quartet’s new-found empathy’ (The Guardian).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
