Tribute to Thelonious Monk, in honor of his 99th year, in a
solo concert by pianist John Beasley, who has collaborated with Miles
Davis, Herbie Hancock and countless others.
Grammy- and
Emmy Award-nominated John Beasley is a far-ranging pianist, composer,
and arranger who has performed with an awe-inspiring list of music
icons: Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Dianne Reeves, Herbie Hancock,
Steely Dan, Marcus Miller, Christian McBride, Chaka Khan and even a
stint with James Brown.
The American pianist, composer and
arranger pays tribute to Thelonious Monk at this concert in honor of
Monk’s 99th year. Beasley will feature arrangements he wrote from his
latest album MONK’estra Vol. 1, which has been on the Top Ten Jazz
Charts since its launch on August 19, 2016 and has been described as
‘some of the most mesmerizing big band music of recent memory’
(International Review of Music).
‘John Beasley, the one-time
keyboardist for Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, whose playing reflects a
variety of generational influences, incorporating the emphatic chordal
clusters of Herbie Hancock, the rhythmic quirkiness of Monk and the lush
intelligence of Art Tatum into a highly refined personal voice’ (Los
Angeles Times).
After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
