Joey Calderazzo is best known as the pianist in the Branford Marsalis Quartet, with whom he recorded a magnificent DVD Coltrane’s A Love Supreme Live at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam. He made a big impression as a solo pianist here as well. His trio is based in the modern swing and jazz tradition. On his most recent trio album Live (2013) he plays his original compositions alongside pieces by, among others, Keith Jarrett and Paul Motian.

Joey Calderazzo has made a name for himself as the keyboard player and composer for two of the most important tenor saxophonists of the past 40 years:Michael Brecker and Branford Marsalis. He has released several albums on differing label, including Blue Note. Both as solo pianist and leader of his own trio. As Brandford Marsalis’ main musical collaborator he worked on successful projects including the electric band Buckshot LeFonque and the acoustic duo album Songs of Mirth and Melancholy.

‘The pianist sounds wonderful, whether playing Brahms or his own Thelonious Monk-ish One Way’ (Downbeat).
