JEFF ‘TAIN’ WATTS TRIO

AFTERWARDS THE SIDEWINDERS SOUND SYSTEM

Paul Bollenback gitaar, Orlando le Fleming bas, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts drums

Power trio led by drum icon Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, famous for his
collaborations with Brandon en Wynton Marsalis. ‘Watts is in constant
motion’ (Jazz Times).

Drummer/composer Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts is
anything but a traditional drummer; he continuously surprises with
breathtakingly varied playing. He is hailed for his explosive power,
combined with a refinement that reveals his classical education. After
his intensive collaborations with Wynton and Bradford Marsalis, Watts
became one of the most in-demand drummers in contemporary jazz. He’s
also renowned as a composer and band leader, with regular releases on
his own label Dark Key Music.

At the Bimhuis Watts will perform
with guitarist Paul Bollenback and bassist Orlando le Fleming, who also
appear on his recent albums Blue, Vol. 1 & 2. The focus of these
recordings is mostly blues and ballads, occasionally intertwined with
raw street energy. Most of the recordings took place at Watts’ own
studio, a former church in Easton, Pennsylvania.

‘Blue Vol. 1
keeps it real. Its upfront rough street hewn emotional honesty recalls
late 60s avant-soul jazz jams by the likes of Archie Shepp, Rahsaan
Roland Kirk and the Adderley Brothers’ (Jazz Music Archives).

‘Like
such jazz drum icons as Art Blakey, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Tony
Williams and Jack DeJohnette before him, Watts is in constant motion’
(Jazz Times).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
