JEFF ‘TAIN’ WATTS QUARTET

Marcus Strickland-tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, David Gilmore-guitar, Yunior Terry Cabrera-bass, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts-drums

Trained as a classical percussionist, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts became widely known as drummer with the Marsalis brothers: since 1981 he played with Wynton and since 1989 with Branford. Today he is one of the most demanded drummers in contemporary jazz. He combines unusual, complex time with explosive power, subtle elegance and a never lost street roughness. When Branford Marsalis performed Coltrane´s A Love Supreme in the Bimhuis in 2003, Watts took up the impossible task to follow in Elvin Jones’ footsteps. The result was fantastic in every way (brought out on DVD) and can be called legendary.
