JEAN-PAUL BOURELLY/MELVIN GIBBS/CALVIN WESTON

To many Jean-Paul Bourelly is considered the finest interpreter of the works of Jimi Hendrix. The guitarist was born in Chicago and was one of the co-founders of The Black Rock Coalition (New York, late 80s) and the list of those he has worked with include Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Vernon Reid and Elliot Sharp. Bassist Melvin Gibbs (known for his work with Defunkt, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Henry Rollins, Arto Lindsay, Bill Frisell, David Murray, Sonny Sharrock, Eliott Sharp, John Zorn and David Byrne) has been voted several times by Time Out New York as ‘Best Bass Player in the World’. His work can be heard on over 200 albums. G. Calvin Weston, last year he played the Bimhuis with The Free Form Funky Freaks en The Super Quintet, replaces Cindy Blackman. With Band of Gypsys Reloaded, this power trio pays tribute to the versatile, intense and much too brief career of Hendrix who toured with the original Band of Gypsys, from December 1969 to March 1970.
