Bassist Ruud Jacobs and pianist Cees Schrama are featured in the new episodes of Jazzportretten (Jazz Portraits). Director: Jan Kelder. Collaboration with NPO Cultura, Jazzism and Bijzondere Collecties.
The Dutch Jazz Archive has initiated a series of video portraits of important Dutch jazz musicians. The premiere of the first episodes will take place at the Bimhuis, as part of its 40th anniversary. The portraits are filmed by director Jan Kelder, known for his documentaries on Piet Noordijk, John Engels and Rita Reys.
The new episodes are dedicated to double bassist Ruud Jacobs and pianist Cees Schrama. Ruud Jacobs made name in the 1950s with the Pim Jacobs Trio, which accompanied many international jazz greats and scored success as a trio in its own right. Pianist Cees Schrama also played jazz in the fifties. After that he played many styles of music including funk and soul with Casey & The Pressure Group. He also made name as a producer and a radio presenter.
In due time all episodes will be available through the Dutch Jazz Archive website and they will be broadcast by digital television channel NPO Cultura. The series is financially backed by several sponsors including NPO and the transnational jazz research project Rhythm Changes.
