Lecture by saxophone player Michael Moore, in Dutch. On the basis of anecdotes and images, Michael Moore reminisces the 1980s, when he came to Amsterdam and became acquainted with the jazz scene here.
The OBA Public Library of Amsterdam (Oosterdokkade) will start a new series of events initiated by the Bimhuis. Renowned musicians who are regular performers at the Bimhuis are invited to give their insights into jazz history, on the basis of anecdotes, films, books, photographs and (live) music. A lecture series aimed at music aficionados, students and visitors of the Bimhuis and OBA. Alto saxophonist Michael Moore will open the series.
Moore is a key figure of Amsterdam’s improvised music scene. He’s renowned all over the world for his beautiful tone and his rich musical imagination. The California-born reeds player combines the best of different worlds: the finesse of the American jazz tradition, the anarchy of New Dutch Swing and the unusual sounds of non-Western folk music. At OBA he reminisces the 1980s when he moved to Amsterdam and became acquainted with the local jazz and improvised music scene.
This lecture is linked to the concert by the Michael Moore Bigtet on 28 November at the Bimhuis.
