Three-part mini-festival, featuring well-known players as well as enticing new talents.
Jazzfest Amsterdam, ‘undoubtedly the best jazz festival in Amsterdam’ (het Parool) is known for its remarkable new combinations of young talents and established names from various directions in music. Looking ahead to a new fully-fledged edition of JazzFest on 19 March 2022, the BIMHUIS presents a smashing mini-festival with three performances.
Singer Līva Dumpe and guitarist Ella Zirina are both super talents from Latvia who have established themselves in Amsterdam. At Jazzfest Minifest they will perform with Dutch saxophone talent Ben van Gelder. Their opening set will be followed by a solo performance by pianist Franz von Chossy, who has previously performed at the BIMHUIS with his own jazz bands, and with the groundbreaking ensemble Arifa.
Closing act Hi-Stakes makes the audience jump, dance and shout to rhythm and blues inspired by Louis Jordan, dream away to the sweet sound of blues ballads in the heritage of Percy Mayfield, and shake to the swinging songs in the style of a young Ray Charles. The band features charismatic frontman Sam Ghezzi on vocals and tenor sax. Their other tenor saxophonist, Gideon Tazelaar, has previously performed at the BIMHUIS with, among others, Fleurine, Fay Claassen and Benjamin Herman.
