At the start of the new year, Jazzfest Amsterdam offers a taster of what’s to come at the festival (23 March 2019 at Studio/K), that surprises every year with a versatile program organized by musicians. Jazzfest brings together young talents and established names from various genres, from accessible swing to unruly improv and boundless groove, all under one roof.
The up-and-coming Mo van der Does Quartet plays original compositions bringing sax, trumpet, bass and drums together into one forceful band sound. Together they have won the Expression of Art Award and the individual members have won the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours. This spring their debut album as a group will be released.
Saxophonist Tineke Postma, pianist Tony Roe (Tin Men and the Telephone) and singer Laura Polence form a surprising ensemble in which improvisation leads to new music.
This group, consisting of musicians from three different generations, has been especially created for MiniFest. The three musicians have never performed with each other before.
Mandala Tribe is an synergetic combination of Indian music, electronics and jazz. The three members have made name in, among others, Zuco 103, New Cool Collective and Giovanca’s band. ‘A breath of fresh air … firmly played tabla, beautiful lyrical flute playing, compelling beats, and deep, thrumming Moog parts’ (MixedWorldMusic).
