JAZZ ORCHESTRA OF THE CONCERTGEBOUW & LEE KONITZ
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw opens its eighth Bimhuis season with one of the grandmasters of jazz as special guest. Alto saxophonist Lee Konitz (Chicago, 1927) has a career that captures 55 years of jazz history. In de 40’s he was one of the rare saxophonists who developed his own style outside of the dominant influence of Charlie Parker. He played with Lennie Tristano, Stan Kenton, Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker and Bill Evans. With his own band he leaves an intriguing legacy of recordings. Konitz always surprises with new improvised variations on songs that have been performed a million times before.
