‘I Walked with Giants’ is the title of the autobiography by tenor saxophone player/composer Jimmy Heath (1926), and rightly so, as he has shared the stage with everyone from Coleman Hawkins to Wynton Marsalis. 35 years ago he played the Bimhuis for the last time with the legendary Heath Brothers. Now he is back as a soloist with ‘the best, most versatile and swinging big band in The Netherlands’ (AD), the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. ‘Trane was always high on Jimmy’s playing and so was I’ (Miles Davis).
