With Dr. Lonnie Smith the JOC welcomes a special guest who perfectly fits its funky orchestra sound. Dr. Lonnie Smith is the sultan of the Hammond, a cult hero who has played on more than 70 albums. In 1969 he was already voted best organ player of the year by Downbeat. The recent revival of the Hammond B3 organ has gained recognition for the Doctor far beyond the jazz world. He continues to make records where he releases his funky boogaloo approach to songs by such different artists as John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix and Beck.
