Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw
This show is streamed live on BIMHUIS TV and can be followed on YouTube and Facebook.
Celebrate International Jazz Day with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. At 20.00 BIMHUISTV broadcasts a unique concert in which the orchestra plays music from American composer, arranger, and pianist Jim McNeely for the first time.
The collaboration with McNeely is not new; in 2019 the conductor toured with the orchestra through the Netherlands with renowned sax player Joshua Redman. That collaboration led to the idea of McNeely becoming the Virtual Composer in Residence in 2020. This fall they release an album filled with new compositions. The livestream gives you a sneak preview of what’s to come. With a new piece Trying to Smile, specially written for the orchestra, a solo by pianist Peter Beets, McNeely’s Off the Cuff, and lots more.
