Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw

On the album The  Jazz Influencers, The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw plays music by a new generation. What’s the vision of young musicians on the present and future of big band music?

Last summer the orchestra invited young, prominent jazz musicians to bring in new compositions. Known performers Tienek Postma, Reinier Baas, Maarten Hoogenhuis, Joris Roelofs, Ben van Gelder, Simin Tander, Maartje Meijer, Morris Kliphuis, Gideon van Gelder and Lars Dietrich examine contemporary big band music and bring it to the future. Conductor Rob Horsting created new arrangements for these pieces, which can be heard on the new album The Jazz Influencers.

The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw won several Edison Awards, including one for the album Crossroads. The orchestra regularly performs with world class soloists such as Chick Corea, Christian Scott and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Since 1999 the orchestra supports big band music with concerts all over the globe and programs celebrating the Dutch jazz heritage.
