After Chris Potter and Benny Golson the JOC welcomes another famous tenor saxophone player this year. Don Menza is a powerful and versatile soloist who grabbed the spotlights with stints alongside big band leaders and famous entertainers alike. In the late 1960s he established his name with the famous Channel Suite No.1 solo that he recorded with the Buddy Rich Band. Menza wrote the standards Groovin’ High and Time Check and he made a career as an arranger and film composer. Sergio Mendes and Leonard Cohen, are among the many artists for whom he has done studio work.
