JAVON JACKSON/ JIMMY COBB SUPERBAND
Javon Jackson-tenor saxophone, Ronnie Mathews-piano, Nat Reeves-bass, Jimmy Cobb-drums
Saxophonist Javon Jackson, who became known as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers (80’s edition), by now has a series of Blue Note albums to his own name and is placed high up in the hierarchy of New York tenor players. A Super Band indeed with Nat Reeves on bass, Ronnie Mathews, pianist of Max Roach and Art Blakey (in the Messengers generation previously to Jackson’s) and drummer Jimmy Cobb who played with Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Dizzy Gillespie before he joined Miles Davis’ band in 1958. He stayed with him until 1963 and can be heard on records like Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, Someday My Prince will Come, Live at the Blackhawk.
