JASPER SOMSEN TRIO
FEAT. JEAN-MICHEL PILC & ANDRÉ CECCARELLI
Jean-Michel Pilc piano, Jasper Somsen bas, André Ceccarelli drums
International super trio featuring pianist Jean-Michel Pilc and
drummer André Ceccarelli brought together by double bassist Jasper
Somsen, renowned for his ‘wonderful singing tone, wealth of sound and
creativity’ (Jazzenzo).
Dutch double bassist Jasper
Somsen recently collaborated with remarkable jazz pianists. Especially
his collaboration with Italian master Enrico Pieranunzi turned out
successful. ‘Music beyond beauty’, commented Jazzflits about the lyrical
album Tales from the Unexpected starring drum veteran André Ceccarelli.
Now Somsen rejoins with one of his all time favorite French drummers,
in a trio with pianist Jean-Michel Pilc. Their first meeting turned out
so successful that they immediately recorded two albums entitled A New
Episode in Life. Part 1, released this month, contains original
compositions by Somsen. Part 2, a mix of free form improvisations and
standards, will appear later this year.
Jean-Michel Pilc, who
previously worked as a rocket scientist in Toulouse, flourished in the
mid-1990s as a miraculously talented piano player in premier New York
jazz clubs. Pilc preformed with jazz greats such as Roy Haynes and
Michael Brecker. André Ceccarelli also accompanied an impressive list of
celebrities, from the best French singers (Charles Aznavour, Gilbert
Bécaud) to soul stars (Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles) and jazz heroes
(Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
