Jasper Blom Quartet ft. Pablo Held – Polyphony III
Jasper Blom tenor sax, Jesse van Ruller guitar, Pablo Held piano, Frans van der Hoeven double bass, Martijn Vink drums
For this new chapter in the Polyphony series, the Jasper Blom Quartet joins forces with a figurehead of the young German jazz generation, Pablo Held. The Cologne-based pianist is currently turning heads with his podcast Pablo Held Investigates, in which he interviews international jazz artists. With his successful main trio he has performed with famous musicians such as John Scofield en Chris Potter.
For Polyphony, Jasper Blom has written compositions influenced by polyphonic music, for example the dreamy melodies of French and Flemish medieval masters. But also modern works by Bartók and Hindemith, or the tone clock system by Dutch composer Peter Schat. The Jasper Blom Quartet consists of Dutch jazz all-stars Jesse van Ruller on guitar, Frans van der Hoeven on double bass, and Martijn Vink on drums and of course saxophonist Jasper Blom, who won the famous Boy Edgar Prize in 2019. This formation has previously collaborated with great European soloists such as Bert Joris and Nils Wogram.
