JASPER BLOM QUARTET & BERT JORIS

POLYPHONY OF THE LOWLANDS
AFTERWARDS DJ BEUK AT THE CAFE
Jasper Blom sax, Jesse van Ruller gitaar, Frans van der Hoeven bas, Martijn Vink drums. Special guest: Bert Joris trompet

Polyphony is the common thread is this collaboration between respected Flemish trumpeter Bert Joris and the Dutch all-star band of Jasper Blom.

Polyphony is a musical phenomenon to which Flemish and Dutch musicians have made important contributions historically. Polyphony as developed from the 14th until the 16th century forms the point of departure for the new band featuring Flemish trumpet player Bert Joris and the four illustrious Dutch jazz musicians in the Jasper Blom Quartet.

Bert Joris is among the most prominent European trumpet players, with a vision on jazz that is simultaneously nostalgic and forward-thinking. The Antwerp born musician shares a period with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra with Martijn Vink, the drummer of the Jasper Blom Quartet. Joris has also performed with the other members, saxophonist Jasper Blom, gitarist Jesse van Ruller and double bassist Frans van der Hoeven.

‘Jasper Blom is one of the most compelling composers in the Netherlands. His pieces are fresh, accessible and exciting’ (de Volkskrant).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
