Jasper Blom Big Band plays Ellington
Saturday2 September 2023

Some time ago, saxophonist Jasper Blom crossed paths with an Eventide H9000R, the world’s most advanced harmonizer effect device. Behind the combination of this device and a vintage effects bank lies a universe of sounds with fantastic orchestral possibilities.

Jasper Blom saw his opportunity: ‘For the first time in my life, I wanted to start my own big band.’ No sooner said than done. He wrote arrangements of his favorite Ellington compositions for sextet and harmonizer, resulting in a great big band sound. The sextet consists of the most talented jazz musicians of this moment: Ian Cleaver on trumpet, Gideon Tazelaar on tenor sax, Maarten Combrink on trombone, Timothy Banchet on piano, Cas Jiskoot on bass and Tim Hennekes on drums.
