JASON MORAN & THE BANDWAGON
Jason Moran piano, Tarus Mateen bas, Nasheet Waits drums
‘One of the world’s best jazz groups’ (The Guardian) is back at the Bimhuis. Like no other, pianist Jason Moran is able to link jazz with classical music and hip-hop.
Pianist/composer Jason Moran has been spearheading the new jazz generation ever since he won the Downbeat Critics Polls in three categories in one year: Jazz Artist, Pianist and Jazz Album (for the Blue Note CD Ten from 2010). His Bandwagon Trio is universally acclaimed ‘one of the world’s best jazz groups’ (The Guardian).
Like no other, Jason Moran is able to find a connection between classical piano, hip-hop and jazz of all ages. Alongside multimedia-projects dedicated to Thelonious Monk and Fats Waller his oeuvre contains traces of Jimi Hendrix and hip-hop producer J Dilla, alongside influences from comedy and contemporary art.
‘He leads the charge… with his hip-hop persona, love of jazz history and amazing chops you can’t box him in’ (Downbeat).
