1000 – JAN KLARE, WILBERT DE JOODE, BART MARIS, MICHAEL VATCHER

Jan Klare saxophone, Bart Maris trumpet, Wilbert de Joode bass, Michael Vatcher drums

For his improvisational group 1000 (Thousand), German saxophone player Jan Klare composes works tinged with influences of classical music by Ravel, Wagner and Monteverdi. Sometimes he also uses simple marching music or melodies by Burt Bacharach as a basis. The compositions are springboards for inventive renditions by three natural born improvisers. ‘Klare’s blustery saxes, de Joode’s aggressive and physical bass playing, and Vatcher’s ultra-dynamic approach to the proceedings make for one finely balanced and continually surprising ensemble’ (Cadence).
