JAN AKKERMAN, ODD-ARNE JACOBSON, WIEK HIJMANS PLAY JOHN DOWLAND & MORE

Guitar hero Jan Akkerman plays music by 16th century English lutist John Dowland and more, in a trio with guitarists Odd-Arne Jacobson and Wiek Hijmans.

Following his success with rock groups Brainbox and Focus, Jan Akkerman surprised friends and foes with de mostly acoustic music of the solo album Tabernakel (1973). A major part of the album was dedicated to English lute music of 16th century composers such as Anthony Holborne, Thomas Morley and John Dowland. For the concert A Different Place for Gracefulness at the Bimhuis, Akkerman once again sets his sights on Dowland’s music. The Dutch guitar hero will form a trio with two renowned colleagues, Norwegian jazz improviser Odd-Arne Jacobson and Wiek Hijmans, a specialist in contemporary concert music.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
